A local moderator told me I should be able to find PDF versions of textbooks on this site if I put this question out there. I hope I'm doing this right. If not, I'm not trying to break rules or offend anyone.

If there are legal PDF formats of textbooks available, then they would probably be on the publisher's or author's websites. While some people have been known to scan a text book into a PDF format, and then offer it via P2P (peer to peer) sharing, these are not legal releases, and sometimes are quite different from the proper textbook.
