I can't even connect to it from Canada, so I've stopped trying and removed it from the servers list.

i must say that dalnet is the most stupid network out there. it lists like 15 servers of which only 3 work of which there is 10% chance that your connection will be accepted but you wont connect on it so you can use it but will be ditched off for unknown reason
i mean what kind of idiots run this thing anyway?
and yes i fu*ked it off too but lately i needed to go there (god forgive me for even think on that)

Umm...
Firstly, the DDoS attacks against DALnet ended ages ago. No doubt like any network they suffer from threats and actions on a regular basis, but from what I've heard there is no specific trouble as of late, and certainly nothing on the scale of the previous attacks.
I find it's best to use the irc.dal.net server pool to connect to DALnet since they introduced their IX servers. I have no problem connecting to DALnet at all (I'm in the UK too), and although I do get disconnected from there with 10053 more often than Undernet or EFnet, it isn't a massive amount more. Apparently, over 30,000 other clients also don't have trouble connecting.
According to /links by the way, it has 21 servers, I realise that the list available on the web isn't as up to date as that list.
Regards,
Mentality/Chris

Why would you want to go on DalNet anyway. It's just a server playground for all the trouble making botnet controllers, etc. There are many networks that are much better.

Whether or not dalnet is a good or bad network is irrelevant, razor needs to get on there and doesnt need to explain himself. As Mentality said, I've been using the irc.dal.net server pool since they introduced the IX servers and while I am in the US,I've not had those problems. I know when they first introduced the IX servers I had all kinds of issues but they eventually cleared themselves up between DAlnet or my own ISP making changes (and while I dont know which one, I dont care as I can get on any time I want to). Have you been able to get onto dalnet in the past or is this your first attempt (or first series of attempts) onto the network?

Right, enough is enough with the bad language thanks. The filters are not there for you to avoid by censoring, and I'm getting as annoyed at your attitude as you are at DALnet. You can't connect to a network that thousands of other people can connect to, that doesn't mean the people who run DALnet are idiots, nor does it make DALnet a *bleep* network. Now calm down Here's an updated server list, not the one on the DALnet website: slimey.uk.eu.dal.net rumble.fl.us.dal.net redemption.ix.us.dal.net rangers.ix.us.dal.net powertech.no.eu.dal.net oi.ix.au.dal.net novel.ix.us.dal.net mozilla.se.eu.dal.net mesra.kl.my.dal.net matrix.de.eu.dal.net masters.ix.us.dal.net maple.ix.ca.dal.net loyalty.ix.us.dal.net jingo.ix.us.dal.net jade.va.us.dal.net irc.dal.net hotspeed.sg.as.dal.net hope.ix.us.dal.net hoon.ix.au.dal.net broadway.ny.us.dal.net arcor.de.eu.dal.net Whenever I'm having trouble with the main server pool, I usually manage to connect fine to mesra.dal.net or jade.dal.net. A lot of people find arcor and powertech good servers too, and they are both located within Europe. Regards,
Mentality/Chris

Try java ? Does Dalnet support java? apart from testing I stay as far from there as possible. I haven't been able to use the DALnet Java Client for years. Whenever I try, it tries to connect to jade.*, which NEVER connects. I tried to talk to the Opers on the webteam for about 2 years, then gave up because they simply didn't seem to be interested in hearing about people that couldn't connect.

been there done that, same sh*t. tho its irrelevant, connection is connection no matter what client is used. Just got this on dalnet Current global users: 30970 Max: 56468 I think that if that number of users can connect then so should you, unless you have a problem at your end. Does Dalnet suck/blow ? who cares with hundreds of thousands of networks out there and connection to any network being a priviledge and not a right, you gotta look at your connection 1st. Sorry if it upsets anyone but thats the truth.

Because us of this threat, I went to it yesterday as well. Connecting to it was no problem for me (from the EU).
In the leading channels there, there is not much chatting going on though. But if you wanna test your new protection scripts, its the best place to go.
All I saw in those channels, was kicking, banning, spamming, on join/on part messages, advertising etc etc. Man, mayhem!
But it did work...

if you are "lagging" off it may be your ISP that blows, not DALnet.
Like others posting to this thread i use dalenet on a regular basis and though there have been days that connecting was an issue, there is nothing happening on dalnet that I haven't had happen on any other net.
things to consider: is your ISP a [CENSORED] piece of [CENSORED] that is having packet loss issues or just plain blows?
are you using the right port (or did you even try other ports?)
did you consider it might be a short term problem?

Who is saying you had to go to Dalnet? If you don't like it noone is saying you have to connect there. There is plenty of servers around to do what you need to do. If you would like to keep going there you should talk to the admins there on the network about it.

oblivious, had you read the whole thread you'd know he has to go there for something specific. There is some kind of meeting up they're having there and so he has to be there

... and your whole why-do-you-have-to-go-there-if-you-don't-like-it post is pointless, since he had already stated that he HAD to go there for some specific reasons.
