I have tried to "create" a own channel on QuakeNet:s servers, but i always get the same message when i try to connect/join my channel.

Code:
unable to join channel (need correct key)

Why is that..?

That means the channel already exists, and its owners have locked it with a password (called "key" on IRC). You can only join that channel if you know the key.

Looks like you'll have to choose another channel name for your own channel..

Hmm, ok...

Is it possible that i´m the one who has locked it without knowing..? crazy

Where is the "lock/key"-function..?

Well, you'd still have to be in the channel then, or you'd have to have a friend or a channel bot like L on it: once the last person leaves a channel, that channel will be deleted along with any modes set on it. So all in all, I think it's pretty unlikely that it was you..

Once you've joined, double-click on the channel window - the mIRC Channel Central dialog should pop up, and there's a Key option there. Alternatively, you can use this command:

Code:
/mode #mychannel +k mykey

Well, in that case you haven't actually joined that channel yet...

Not unless you are in the channel, and have operator status there.. So in your case, I'm afraid not.. As I said, you'd better pick another channel name smile

you can bypass the need for the key to access the channel, IF you had someone who was already in that channel invite you in.. invites supercede the password. other than that your stuck...(fyi, if you need to, you can msg a user from outside a channel to ask for an invite)
