i can never seem to be able to connect to mirc; it always says "unable to connect (connection refused)" and i have no idea why it does this. can anyone help me?

It could be a number of things...but here are some things to consider

Are you using a router?
Are you running a firewall if so what OS are you running as well?
What network are you trying to connect to (If its DALnet use the search feature on this site to find many posts related)

Keep in mind that these are some options that may be a cause or may not be...Try to provide us with a little more info that way we have better odds of helpin out.

It means that server refused the connection. See this thread for an explanation of this error. Find the website for the network you are trying to connect to and copy down some of their servers, then try to connect to one of them. Suppose one of the server names is something.brat.net, then in your status window you would type /server something.brat.net

Have you tried more than one network to check?
