Whoever saw my post before, ignore it *eyes starbucks*, I'm too slow today...
Anyway, now that starbucks has put me on the right track, I can't think of a way that I have seen them removed before, perhaps it is possible though, although it's not an mIRC feature.
I remain the same in that I do not have an issue with this feature being incorporated myself.
