Making something more aesthetically pleasing does not always make something more functionally useful.
But, as you say, it's a personal thing, and I personally prefer it to be sorted according to the order of capture, as I find this more useful than an alphabetical list. A capture list of several busy channels over the course of a day or two can get quite large.
If there is a valid reason why the sort order has changed, then I would suggest that the sort order be user-selectable: Sort by Name (new style), Sort by Date (old style).
