Font smoothing should not effect it since he is drawing with a background color.. because in that case, windows uses the background color as the "surrounding pixels" instead of what its drawing on top of.

what I ment was...
I thought that the way font smoothing worked was by examining the contrast between the font ur using and the surrounding pixels...

high contrast --> more smoothing
low contrast --> less smoothing

so by plotting black on white, then white on white over it, there may be pixels set in light grey first time round and left second time round
