I'm a bit confused about what you mean by bars that popup and a link to irc opening and downloading a site and not registering it.
So the bar thingies pop up when you boot up, what is it they say?

Regardless, one thing i would certainly do is run a few virus scans ( hard to expect any one thing to be able to catch all the assorted nasties). There are free online ones like at
