I like the idea of smilies too...the only problem I forsee with that is how do you make it so that the size of the smilies don't interfere with the size of the line of text.
IE. I use a small font (tahoma 8), a smily like those of MSN messenger would make my chat windows look like garbage
I think though if it was disable[able], and the smilies were sizable accordingly, it would be a great feature!
