The basic point is that the mIRC installer does barely more than just extract files as it is. I think there is some underlying belief that the installer is going to make all sorts of changes on your system that you don't want; but in reality, you can disable every single one of those changes with only a few checkboxes, and there really aren't many of them.

I don't think anyone posting in this thread actually would have any issue with mIRC being released as an EXE. Instead they are just pointing out that this "fear" of running the installer is unwarranted.
