Nicks - Don't we use 'em to recognize some person/fellow (and thus everything we ascribe to that person, not that nick) - by that nick?
So, the best nick would be: any nick you keep in the long run
Formal qualities are (imho):
- easy to read
- easy to type
- not too long but distinct (easy to recognize)
