On top of checking your own mirc settings, and script specific circumstances (easy to check by typing /remote off), as Riamus2 noted some ircds allow channel owners to set a flag that filters control codes out of messages. You can check the '/quote ircdhelp' for information regarding the availible modes to check against those set.
