Honestly (and this gets off topic) I think MAYBE originally people did it to prove that windows COULD be left on (not that it SHOULD be left on) a long time so that *nix users wouldnt bash the OS nearly as much. Some people will even go so far as to say WHY they need to keep it on that long. Personally, I never saw the use either, but then I dont have the desire/need to either *shrug*
