I am at a college at the moment an i cant use mirc because of the firewall. Can anyone help me with this. Is there anyway that i can bypass the firewall and get the mirc to connect.

As with most things in computers, there's a way around everything. The best way for you is to ask permission/ask your system admin to open port 6667 (or the port you need). If you go about it your own way it will get you into strife.

ya but there is no way they will do that. they would rather that the computers be used for ecucational purposes only and not for chating so is ther any other way.

For an educational institution I find that rather strange...

Seriously though, yes there is but I won't tell you because it's all a matter of principle. If they have blocked the ports required to use IRC then their wishes should be respected. It's their network and they obviously feel that IRC usage will give rise to the propagation of bad files in one way or another.
