You're correct

I've used the IRCle client quite extensively in the past (I used to only have access to a Mac at weekends for 4-5 years) and there is no issue with speaking to users from other clients.

The last time I tried IRCle it had trouble interpreting mIRC colour codes, some other clients do too I believe. There is an option that converts as best as possible, but there are various scripts out there for IRCle that can strip colour codes for you.

Personally, as someone who knew absolutely nothing about AppleScript, nothing about loading scripts into IRCle and so on, I found HipScript by DamnHippie was extremely useful for me - in fact, it was like a dream come true as it lets you add custom aliases easily and some other good features, without having some lame look...might help you make your IRCle experience a little easier smile

If you're using a Mac you might also consider Snak - it looks a lot more like mIRC (due to it's tabbed view) and I thought it was a bit more user friendly. There have been a few new versions of IRCle since I used it though so it may also have tabbed views and other nifty stuff since then.
