altho i dont have an answer for you, i can tell you that when i was using 3.11, user.exe seemed to get cranky at just about anything confused does this happen with every custom dialog or just specific ones?

for whatever reason, every version of mIRC after 5.41 on my 3.11 would pop up a variety of oddities, most of which i couldnt track down a specific reason for nor were any of them consistent, which led me to believe the prob was 3.11, not mIRC.

rumor has it that when i upgraded, Khaled celebrated and cut down on his buying of headache remedies

well it will act up only when i put certen things in a script

well not cretern things, if i edit the script even just adding a echo it could cause it to crash when i run a dialog but somtimes it doesnt ... its hard to explane

like if i have 1 script that all it is is a dialog it will work fine but if i put say "alias test { echo test } " then it could cause mirc to crash when i run the dialog

thats the only time mirc crashes on win3.11

oh believe me, i KNOW its hard to explain crazy Scripts would sometimes be just fine, other times all kinds of wierd thingies would happen. Scripts would be rewritten and work fine for a while, then go nuts. I single handedly drove a few scripters insane with my poor old 3.11

wish i had a solution for you, but none of us could ever find one for me and another friend using 3.11 and since we each had diff probs at diff times, we couldnt find any consistancies. Hammer *might* remember the scripting changes after 5.41 that caused me the most probs, but more than likely he happily purged them from his memory banks while celebrating my upgrade.

hrm.. check back on this thread in a couple days, there's someone else i know who may have some thoughts about this

I did. I happily did a brain-flush as soon as Para upgraded to Win98SE/32-bit mIRC.

copy of email:
hi brat, short answer no idea sorry as I have never used dialogs, so my reply is:

me thinks Parabrat drove a few scripters insane with windows 98 too... but I was already insane =)

Except for user error, win3.11 and mIRC 5.82 were reasonably stable for me until I upgraded to win98. I did not use dialogs back then (or now). If I was desperate for a resolution I would try...
1. rewrite without a dialog to see if you regain stability
2. try version 5.82, the most stable mIRC I had with win3.11
3. do some hard drive/system maintenance to clean up any possible conflicts

note that 5.41 (and 5.61) were the best to use with 3.11 in many ways. This of course doesnt take into consideration the Buffer Overflow in all mIRC versions prior to 6.0

Win3.11 rules! Its running behind me now :Þ
Happy New Year!
