When you try and connect, what error message do you get or what is stopping you?

For one you need to fill out the information such as nickname correctly and two, need to connect to a valid server.

Try:
//nick test2983 | /emailaddr test2912@fakemail.fake | /fullname test | /identd on test | /server irc.undernet.org 6667

When posting connection issues you should make sure you give us much information you can and this can include:

[*]Microsoft Windows version.
[*]Service Pack number.
[*]Internet connection.
[*]Router information.
[*]Computer specification - processor speed, RAM, etc.

Also, if you can't connect you should also give us the error number and message. For example:

[10053] Software caused connection abort

If there was an error number, click the search feature type in the error number for a more effective feedback expand your search to 5 years to see if this error has occured before.

Try these:

Is your windows xp firewall enabled? Usually you can find that in "Network connections". Normally, clicking 'Properties' on your connection and then selecting the 'Advanced' tab, try disabling it.

Also is the Identd option in mIRC enabled? If not then try enabling it. If you are still having problems let us know.
