Thanks, I already know what "nul" is.
That's why I called it "bit bucket" and "nul device" in my post.
I called it a "hack" (mind the quotation marks) only as you cannot suppose every app to accept nul on a "higher level", like MSL. You can ask for it though - especially if the app allowed for nul in the past.
