Several IDE programs tell you when you are in overwrite mode, usually by highlighting the actual character.
I would like to see this added to the editor, and why not to all editboxes
It's minor but it's useful, and there's no inconvenience.

I agree with this also. I have always wished there was a keyboard indicator for this and have always wondered why there is not. It's really aggravating when it happens.

Just don't hit the key? laugh

Anyhow, I think this is a good idea as well. Personally, I'd just disable the Insert key if it were possible considering I never use it, but it really isn't a problem.

Yeah, that's why I posted it. I mean I figured it was common sense obvious stuff, but maybe not.

Exactly, it's common to make that mistake (hitting the insert key when you obviously don't want to), so it's common to fix that mistake too (whatever the way, ctrl+z being the easiest).
Now if you knew it was obvious, why say it ?

Anyway, people are doing that mistake everytime, it's not even about get the text back to what it was and hitting the insert key again, it's about knowing if you are in overwrite mode because sometimes, you just think you hit the key but there's no way to know except editing something, which is obviously annoying and which is why IDE implemented that feature.

ie: your post didn't add anything to the thread and only generated 4 useless post, please think about that.

Your response is the useless post it generated, think about that one!

The point of my post is that it's way easier to just hit ctrl + Z than it is to code something into the script editor to tell you if your insert key got pressed.

By the same token there's no need of a cursor as such - just delete the input (or undo!) if you typed at the wrong line or in the wrong window? smirk
For my part, I can see the use of it.

Not all keyboards have an insert key.

The damning argument against enabling overtype mode via the insert key is the key located below it. The forward delete key. Nuff said.

BTW overtype mode is already supported. By pressing the INS key. In mIRC.

I think I've proven that this thread is MUD.

---------

You are asking for a notification icon. Not support for enabling it via the INS key.

Okay my mistake.
