i /join'd #lobby on a server and it said this:

-
[Link] #lobby has become full, so you are automatically being transferred to the linked channel #EgYpT
-
this is where i /who on join:
#Egypt sn0wX H sn0wX@27C94095.818DC793.7034E962.IP :2 sn0wX
#Egypt tidy_trax H force_n_st@A663CE3.31E642A1.22C6B170.IP :0 tidy_trax
#Egypt bazooka_egypt Hr IrCQNet@7D520F2.A295FB9F.4F572F1C.IP :3 Enable

so i obviously was forced to join #egypt, but the switchbar still said #lobby
.

What does $chan return?

Sounds very strange (as you said).

Open a /debug window, what does it say when you join?
<- :nick!user@host JOIN :#lobby
or
<- :nick!user@host JOIN :#egypt
?

#lobby isn't full now so i can't find that out, i'll keep trying and tell you when i find out.

might be purely server config using an svsjoin...
Posted By: bluefox83 Re: strange bug. - 29/10/03 06:51 AM
it's a server thing. the 2 rooms are linked so that clients connected to one room can see the other, kinda like servers that are linked in a network all share the same rooms until they break apart. contact your network admin for more information on channel linking smile

i know that, but if mirc whois's egypt (using /who $target) surely $chan should be the same as $target

$target gets the target straight from the very specific raw message (like ":nick!address PRIVMSG #blah :blah blah"). I guess $chan, on the other side, is only really filled when you *join* a channel, then it's just referenced later. I believe that's why you should check if the server sends all the normal info again when you're forced to join the new channel.
I'm not sure, though. Just a guess.
