I am using Windows XP (SP1) and mIRC 6.12 and am trying to get Cyrillic character set to work.
I have turned on Multibyte characters in IRC->Messages.
I have changed the channel font to "Courier New"
Whenever I type anything in to the text box it displays as normal but when it comes out in the channel it displays "????"
I visited the DALnet #mIRC channel - it was suggested that I try it in mIRC 5.91... Using the same settings it worked fine in mIRC 5.91 so i can only assume this is a new bug.
Is there any work around for this? (Other than down grading my version of IRC)
Looking around I do not yet think there is a fix for this, however, several suggestions have been made. If you run a
Search for "Cyrillic" - expand to 'All Forums' and expand the date range to 'All Posts'; you will find a number of posts on the topic.

Happy chatting!
Regards,
Problem also occurs in mIRC 6.01 and 6.03 (the two other versions i have)
None of the tips/guesses in the other thread helped.
It kind of sounds like you're not using the correct font.
Remember, though, that mIRC doesn't have Unicode support yet.
Stop speculating.
If you havn't even bothered to try and get it working yourself and have not succeeded or failed dont bother posting because you're just posting missleading information that doesn't help anyone.
And as for:-
"Remember, though, that mIRC doesn't have Unicode support yet."
Read my post again very carefully - "It worked fine in mIRC 5.91" - now it is broken therefore i post a bug report.
Perhaps it's just my interpretation but your last post seems a tad needlessly harsh towards Rounin. He was only trying to help...
Yes it does - it wasn't supposed to be directed at him specifically...
Sorry Rounin - hope you can forgive my frustration.
Stop blaming your problems on me. If you'd actually known what Unicode was, you'd know that it hasn't worked in mIRC, neither in 5.91 or in anything else.
And if you hadn't created three (okay, two) separate threads about the same problem, you'd already have seen the post that explains how to fix your problem.
Okay, I appologise and get flammed anyway. I was not trying to blame my problems onto anyone.
Well ok - firstly I now understand what Rounin is saying. In that mIRC fakes unicode by changing the "script" setting in the font dialogue but actually only sends single characters to the server....
I have tried sending messages between mIRC 5.91 and 6.12
mIRC 5.91 send to mIRC 5.91 ... works fine
mIRC 5.91 send to mIRC 6.12 ... works fine
mIRC 6.12 send to mIRC 5.91 ... comes up as ? characters.
mIRC 6.12 send to mIRC 6.12 ... comes up as ? characters.
ps. Where is that non-unicode support wotsit in Regional Settings - I've searched everywhere and cannot find it. (I have WInXP Pro SP1)
pps. All other unicode threads were created by people who were not me.
i dont have xp, but i've been told control panel--> regional settings, another person worded it: control panel, language, advanced
What you're using, though, is most likely not Unicode. Thus the wording in the setting, "non-Unicode programs". There are several cyrillic encodings, and they've got nothing to do with Unicode, except perhaps that they've lent it a few character positions.
Here's a guide on using that setting. Pretend it says "Cyrillic", and not "Japanese":

Just as clarification of what PB said (as I am an XP pro user):
It's Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options
From what I've seen go to the 'Advanced' tab to set the language for non-Unicode programs.
G'luck.
Regards,
Thanks for the clarification and link Mentality and Rounin
Rounin: Thanks for the link... I did start to think i was going insane... but ....
My Regional Settings has no advanced tab.... And hence nothing makes sence to me.
I thinks I am going to have to install some Windows XP add-on something or other...
