if you want video and voice chat, download one of the instant messenger programs. mirc is not made for that sort of thing.

no mirc didnt include anything of that sort.....there are addons like a webcam but i dont know about voice chat and it works...i used a mirc webcam addon once to cam with my girlfriend....i agree mirc isnt made for that but its possible to support what you want to do if you know how to do it....i hope that makes sense...

You do make sense and I'd like to see some movement in this area too. All it takes is time (perhaps alot of time) and some imagination. People who say mIRC is just text chat usually never actively chat anyway.

"People who say mIRC is just text chat usually never actively chat anyway."

LOL ya got a point but wouldn't we all be contradicting ourselves in this topic because of previous "newbie" posts on this board that mIRC is meant to be text chat and not something like a download program LOL . In a way yes but now that i think about it if the options were available it would enhance the chat sessions a bit wouldnt it? at least give the option for voice chat like yahoo chat does that way when a channel argument occurs we can all get our kicks out of it...makes it more believable LOL

Could this functionality be added with a script to simply intercept the appropriate CTCP requests, and then fire up a 3rd party mIRC DLL?
Posted By: Gon_ Re: video and voice - 08/01/03 09:55 AM
No such 3rd Party DLL exists. Also, multi-threading might have to be used for Video. So It's better that the client does it itself.
Also, When chatting with someone, do you really want to tell them to download a DLL and install a script just to share video with you? They probably wouldn't do it. It's better to have this kind of feature in-built. Then a simple CTCP VERSION will tell you if that person can share Video with you.
Otherwise, you might aswell just tell them to open netmeeting, as they probably have it installed already (/run conf).

Anyway, this feature was suggested as an addition to the mIRC client. There are other way to do it, ofcourse. You can simply use the 'callto:' URL syntax in a nicklist popup, and have Netmeeting fire up. However, anybody who has used Netmeeting for a reasonable amount of time will know how buggy and Second rate it is, compared to other MS products. It's the best program of it's kind, and yet Crap at the same time.

M$ Netmeeting has always worked okay for me. You get the occasional dropout but that is more likely 'net related, as would be dropout in mIRC, IE or whatever else one likes to use.

I know that no such DLL exists, I was merely asking if a DLL COULD do this. Whether or not mIRC allowed a DLL to have this much functionality.

And sure, why not say "Hey, download this DLL"? Many people download scripts with less prompting.

Sure, there's Netmeeting, but it's slow, buggy (as you said), will never be updated again by Micro$oft and only allows you to video chat with a single person at once.

I don't think it's anywhere near the best program of its kind though. There are plenty of others out there. Netmeeting might be the best for some people, but it all depends on what you're trying to do, what you're willing to put up with, and what bugs affect your system the least smile
