Been a lot of people asking for a script that will make you have to type a password to EXIT the mIRC program.

so your question is....

Sorry if this is a silly question - but why?

It makes sense (given some configurations, you have to specify a password to start mIRC, maximise mIRC etc.) and a password-to-exit would hinder those evil people that hijack our computers (oft. called 'little brothers' :P).

However, people will have to resort to forcefully killing the application - which could cause all manner of hassles (no ON EXIT event for scripts, mirc.ini not updating properly). It might also furthur the uses of mIRC as a trojan platform - but pretty much any good feature has its downsides..

I don't think a script would be able to _fully_ prevent mIRC from closing without a password, this would have to be something coded into mIRC itself.

a password to prevent u from exiting would hinder them how???? does ur pc only allow one running app at a time??? ..... it wouldnt hinder anything ...... all it would do is make it so someone couldnt close ur app unless they had the pass without turning the system off ....... dunno what the trouble is of having to worry bout it closing unless u have ppl who constantly turn ur apps off on u while ur afk ...... altho there is a set a screensaver to come on quickly .... set a password on it for return and well they cant shut off ur apps unless they shut off the pc ....... still same solution isnt it?

A password to exit would hinder _them_ from closing mIRC. :P They _could_ close the mIRC without the password and without having to shut down the computer (using a 3rd party process manager like prcview to forcefully kill).

I used the term 'hinder' because thats all I feel mIRCs password system achieves. The pass is stored in plain text in the registry, so it doesn't add any real 'security' features to mIRC, it's only going to stop the little brothers and sisters the world over (sorry I'm being a stereotype.. :P) from making a nuisance of themselves. I rarely use the lock feature (moreso I rarely remember to set the lock on), but I feel a password-to-exit option would be useful, and only makes sense given the other lock options.

A passworded screensaver is a better option. Blah, it's been mentioned already. I should read all posts first. It's still a good idea though.
