I don't know what is the current status of v7, but this feature would be useful.
I've written a couple of aliases to emulate regex on binvar by using mIRC regex for %vars, but it has some limitations (and it's slower).

Yeah, I wouldn't mind this if it's possible. It would make it much easier to search through large amounts of text (e.g. web page source codes).
