I know I know, voice to text??? Well yea, its cool to use and would be a nice tool to have. and perhaps emotions... restrict the size and allow users to make new emotions. If another user does not have a text face for a serton emotion another user has it well create one from what the origanel users is set to. Users can set it so emotions dont show up and turn on emotions as well as things like allow auto transfer of emotions other users have that the client users dont. so that way a user who does not have an emotion like >:} and another user uses that and has a image attatched to it that image well transfer to that user who does not have it...

Sorry about babiling on and my spelling.

Emoticons have been suggested on numerous occasions and debated heavily. Please use the Search feature to see the other threads about it.

Voice to text is possible through third party programs and hardware devices, and, from hearing of another's experiences, can be compatible with mIRC. You may wish to search Google for further info.

Emoticons would be a very BAD idea to put in mIRC. IRC has been text based and needs to stay that way. Emoticons are for the crappy chat clients like AIM and MSN Messenger.

have a reason as to why it should remain text based?

Because it's just fine the way it is .. I would personally
like to see mIRC remain the one thing that's not bloated
with a bunch of useless crap like emoticons and
whatever other useless crap you can think of.

If there was an option to turn them off, then what's the problem?
Posted By: landonsandor Re: Voice to Text and emotions? - 31/12/04 12:31 AM
HERE's one way it could be done. Another way it could be done is with the code stripping mirc currently has. Personally Id rather not see them in at all rather than having them turn offable.

Good lord, why do we have to have ANOTHER thread about this?

I understand that some people don't like smilies (I wouldn't like them in an IRC environment, but I like them in instant messenging ones), but I don't see why you would rather not have them at all, knowing that it would stop the flood of suggestions on the forum, and also knowing that it's not going to affect you in the slightest unless you have to turn them off if they're enabled by default (A couple of clicks, woopy doo).
Posted By: landonsandor Re: Voice to Text and emotions? - 31/12/04 05:47 PM
because I think that smilies dont belong in IRC programs. I think they should be left to IM programs and webpages and personally, I think it brings mirc DOWN a few notches. I wont argue people want them and that they like them, Id just rather see Khaled devote his time to something else rather than put this feature in. If he puts it in, I wont stop using mirc at all (unless it cant be turned off - which is VERY MUCH not like his style) but that doesnt mean Ill be happy with them there. Sure, if they're off I wont see them, but it all depends on how it's done and how mirc would interprit them - that's why I suggested a way (the ctcp idea) they could be done so we could EASILY ignore them and never know they were there
Posted By: tidy_trax Re: Voice to Text and emotions? - 01/01/05 10:38 AM
The ctcp idea isn't a good one imo, that make another thing that other IRC client authors would be forced to interpret.
The best way would be to just replace text as it comes in, here's an example (Supposing channel windows allowed use of html):

Code:
on ^*:text:*:#:{
  echo $color(norm) -bflirt $+(<,$nick,>) $replace($1-,:P,<img src="tongue.gif">)
  haltdef
}

Yeah I agree with the replace text idea if it must be added.
I recall microsoft chat used to send a ctcp to the channel
when the user set away, while this was no big deal
on a small channel, on large channels it got pretty old.
This would use many more channel ctcp's than ms chat
ever did with its away since most use smilies several times
in a conversation.

Edit: Although, it would probably get used a lot less if
users had to go an extra step to use this rather than just
typing the text.

I think someone needs to make a sticky post explaining that emoteicons have been suggested in the past and tell users topics about emoteicons will be deleted smile
Posted By: Mentality Re: Voice to Text and emotions? - 03/01/05 11:57 AM
Agreed, and done.

Note however, we don't delete threads just because the feature has been suggested a gazillion times :tongue:
