Could you add a minize key (I propose Escape) that'll minimize mIrc (to the tray)?
And could you add an option that'll always keep mIrc out of the taskbar (and in the tray) like ICQ and WinAmp have?
"Could you add a minize key (I propose Escape) that'll minimize mIrc (to the tray)?"
Good idea, there might be some key combination that already does it that I don't know about though..if nobody posts one, there probably isn't
"And could you add an option that'll always keep mIrc out of the taskbar (and in the tray) like ICQ and WinAmp have?"
I think what you want here is already in mIRC:
ALT+O > Display > Options > [Tray]Check the box
"Place mIRC in tray when minimized".
Hope this helps
Regards,
No, I never want mIrc to be in the taskbar. That option only makes it go away when it's minimized.
Some people can never be placed... uh... pleased.
I guess that could be a good option, although if you're switching through an IE window and want to go back to mIRC it's going to be annoying to right click it choose the
chat room you were last chatting in...It'd annoy me anyway
Or is there another reason you want mIRC basically running in the background with no visual disturbance?
Regards,
You can just double-click to restore mIrc.
Yes, but the smallness of the icon would still annoy me as it would mean I'd have to make sure the cursor was over the icon to double click it, and every now and again I'd click another program and open it when I didn't mean to etc....as I said, it's just a personal opinion though.
However, off the top of my head I can't think of a program that's main window is open but at the same time it's icon appears in the tray - the tray is for programs running in the background or that are currently inactive and/or serving another use. Having the mIRC window active but the icon with those would defeat the object.
On top of this, if you have two active mIRC clients and have one minimised to tray, and another active but with the tray icon, it'd be more confusing still (and more annoying IMO) to have to check which one was which.
My 2 cents.
Regards,
Two examples are ICQ and WinAmp.
It's an option, so you don't have to run it.
Maybe a restore (global hot) key would be nice too. ;->
Well mIRC does not have the same format as ICQ or WinAmp...and with regards to ICQ (possibly the same for Winamp) - When you try and open a window within ICQ (i.e. the options menu, edit profile etc) a new bar is added to the taskbar. It's only the little control panel type thing to view chat buddies that can be active on the screen and have the icon in the tray.
As I don't like to post *too* much in one thread, I'll just conclude my opinion:
If the option is possible to add then I'm all for it, although I wouldn't personally use it. I also think it conflicts with what I think the tray is for in the first place. Winamp and ICQ look completely different to mIRC and the windows that do now show in the taskbar do not have the same "format" as mIRC does. mIRC is not what I would class as an IM client and, *IMO*, shouldn't behave like one.
Regards,
You're right.
But the main point of this request was the minimize key, not the tray icon.
