I need some form of DLL or source code that I can use to retreive information from video (mpg/wmv) file tags (like the $sound identifier works with mp3 files.)
Anyone know of anything like this?

use /run with mediainfo command line version and write info to a text file

Perhaps I'll have to try that, but then that requires the user to download mediainfo as well if they want to use the script I am making. :\
yes but they would need to download a dll too if you used one
and the cli version is very small
True, but I was going to use a .DLL that returned .mpg information I could just include it in the script
