can mIRC display GIFs in dialogs (or some other kind of animated images/movies)?
if so, how? i haven't found the option yet..
mIRC doesn't support GIF because of patent issues with GIF (I think they are now expired worldwide, but I could be wrong)
icon controls only support jpg and png I think
You could try using a workaround like nHTML to load a html page into the dialog... you can probably load a gif directly with that, but if not, you can place it on a blank page and load it that way. Crop the page the way you want and you'll have your animation.

how do i do that? just point me to the help file
You can find nHTML from mircscripts.org and other locations. It should contain documentation.
You can load .avi fies into dialog with MDX.dll
.avi files are like the animated .gif files.
.avi files usualy contain audio and are not that simular to .gifs.
if he was using .avi files, he would have asked about so. but .gifs don't contain audio and are usualy small and short, whereas .avi files usualy have a movie/ect in them and are a bit big.
also, its very hard to convert them and its realy pointless.
AVI files do not need to include any video component. It is an option at the very least.
