It's an mIRC version reply, not an IRC version reply.

You cannot remove or change the default version reply. You can however add to it, see this thread for examples and see /help CTCP Events.

Please note that, assuming that wasn't just an example, you're using a very old version of mIRC. I recommend you upgrade to the latest version of mIRC.

isnt there a script that controls ctcp reply?
i know i had it before and it can be downloaded from mircscripts.org or .net dunno anymore

Yes, you can change CTCP TIME and PING replies. (Thank you to all the people who helped me with this.) As was mentioned before, you can add your own VERSION reply, but you can't halt the default one. Here are examples of TIME and PING replies:

ctcp *:TIME:* { raw -q notice $nick : $+ $chr(1) $+ TIME $asctime(hh:nn:ss) Eastern Standard Time smile $+ $chr(1) }

ctcp *:ping:*: { set %day $calc($date(dd) - 5) | ctcpreply $nick ping $ctime($date(mmmm) %day $date(yyyy) $date(HH:nn:ss)) | notice Blake $nick just pinged me | haltdef }

That PING reply is the one I just finished. It basically adds 5 days to the ping time for fun, so the person gets:

[Blake PING reply]: 120hrs 1sec

Hope that helps.

As the mIRC help file says, the version reply cannot be changed. As with all things though, /lusers find ways around everything. But as this forum isn't for lusers, we'll not give them any credit smile

why calling people lusers if they wanna change version reply?

for example, i use mirc 6.03 because my fav script is compatible only with that version, and since it was abndoned (script) long ago, author didnt and does not make updates to fit newest mirc version.

so there is always retards that sniff around others versions and if matches they crash you...

so why not hide potentional threat reply and send "fake" ?

altho i am on QN and i havent met there such noobs and i concider QN quite decent place/network, so i am in no need to fake it...

but if you go on other networks...
like i once went on undernet and even on #help channel
1 guy started to DoS me... and even admited infront of opers there... (altho not same case as crashing mirc) but still
i think you get the point...

wanna be hackers are persistant

Why not simply upgrade to the newest version and use a script that is compatible with it or start from scratch.

dont wanna be rude, but i dont need to...

i was just reffering to USE of fake ctcp reply...

mirc 6.03 works fine for me and i dont see why should i change anything wink

Because it's out of date, it has new commands and identifiers so you don't need to spend hours on end coding when you can use "the new ones".

Would you drink out of date milk? Or would you prefer fresh Vitamin D?

Ah but, some people who have spent hours doing their script up to how they like it, find that numerous things don't work on the latest mIRC, so if things work ok as they are now i'd say it's in their favour not to upgrade, only reason i upgrade is so i keep in fashion

I've not once seen a script that's worth being exploited for.
Posted By: SladeKraven Re: change IRC version reply - 27/05/05 04:30 PM
Agreed. laugh

Umm, you don't get to evade the version reply restriction just because you want to stick with some abandoned script that doesn't get updated anymore. *NO* script is worth running exploitable software for. If you don't want people to exploit you, the simple solution is to upgrade.

There really isn't anything to debate.

I meant if it's your own script.
Posted By: mIRCManiac Re: change IRC version reply - 28/05/05 02:38 AM
Scripting is supposed to be fun, personally I would update
the script, but that's just me. Also I think there should be
an option to have mIRC not respond to version requests.
Posted By: tidy_trax Re: change IRC version reply - 28/05/05 02:39 AM
There is (sort of) - if you ignore all ctcps then mIRC won't respond to version requests either.

could you use /debug info to do this?
Posted By: burek Re: change IRC version reply - 26/06/05 05:00 PM
of course smile

I've found a dozen of internet links that describe how can mIRC version reply be turned off or even faked by /debug

Personally I respect Khaled and his opinion not to let (l)users to change this reply, but I also think there is more fun in changing it wink

if the /debug is to complicated for you, then just install the firewall, the one that lets you catch the IRC protocol messages, and just put the Version privmsg to ignore, and you'll make it..
