Hi. I really need your help on connecting to DALnet servers through a HTTP proxy in mIRC 6.1! I can connect to ICQ through HTTP Proxy, but not mIRC.

According to the FAQ, we just have to fill in the correct settings in the Connect - Firewall part right? According to the HTTP Proxy settings in ICQ, the host is 172.16.1.6 and port 8080. I left the User ID and Password settings blank. I filled those values in the Hostname and Port field in mIRC, and set Firewall Support to Server and Protocol to Proxy. However, when I try to connect, all I get is Unable to Resolve Server. I tried connecting to the DALnet servers by using IP addresses (not domain name), but also failed.

Please help!!! I really have to go through IRC to contact with my family and old friends! Thanks!

6.1 has broken proxy support, try downgrading to 6.03 (http://www.mirc.org/download/mirc603.exe)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Actually, I tried and tried to connect yesterday (I'm using DALnet), and finally, I managed to log into their servers. However, I was soon banned from the server because I don't have an IdentD response. From what I know, all DALnet servers require IdentD.

The problem now is, from what I read in the mIRC FAQ, by using HTTP Proxy, it's impossible to use IdentD. However, I'm quite sure in the computer world, there is no such thing as impossible... Is there any workarounds around it? Thanks!

There are a few IRC friendly proxies out there that supply a random ident. You just have to find them.

I am using mIRC 6.1 and proxies are working for me. Though I am having other odd problems with it.

Dear boogeyman0579,

Thanks for your kind reply. Well, I'm don't really quite understand what you had said. What is a IRC Friendly Proxy? How should I find them? Can you please describe it more and perhaps give me some starting advice so I can find more information about it? Thanks!
