Hi,

I'm using icq to chat with my friends although I'm sitting behind a
firewall
--> it works great!

I tried to switch to mIRC but I cannot apply the settings to get mIRC
to work behind this firewall!

Here are my ICQ settings:

Firewall/IP Settings:
Always use internal IP

ICQ-Server:
Host: login.icq.com
Port:21

Proxy Settings:
Usings Firewall --> not using Proxy

Proxies/Firewall:
HTTPS
Proxy Server: Host:
Port:
--> Use Proxy to resolve hostnames

User to User Connection:
Use server proxy settings

I tried to run a script (provided by the DonkeyNetwork) that tries to connect to a specific port on my machine (IP 206.25.183.44 Port:4662). The error message was:

"
timeout : timeout on ip 206.25.183.44 (6 sec)
this means, that we even did not receive a
RESET signal; maybe due to a 'stealth' firewall
"

I could have tried more ports but I considerd it to be useless!?

I would appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks in advance,

Kurt

You need to forward the ports on your router. These ports include 6667-7000 ad 113 for the Ident server. After you do that, you'll be fine. >:D

Not 100% sure if you are aware of this, from what you typed I couldn't tell, but mIRC can't connect to ICQ. IRC and ICQ are not the same thing.

The problem is that the router is not under my control -->
that means I'm not allowed to change anything on this router settings :-(

Is there a way to find out which ports ICQ uses, or which ports are open and could be used by mIRC?

thx

Well based on what you're now saying it appears whoever runs the router does not want you to do what you are trying to do. Therefore I'm not about to help you get around your network administrator's security settings.

You can try a http-tunnel program ..
Type that in the google ..

I agree with what codemastr said. It's not advisable to help people get around what is obviously there for a good reason. The minute the tunneller logs into it's proxy the user's network is vulnerable to what the system admin's firewall is trying to block. In addition many IRC networks do not allow proxies and it will get the user k:lined.
