Total newbie here. I was told there is an option for staying connected to IRC even after closing mIRC. This is just what I need, but I can't find it in the Help except possibly setting a timer. Is there an option I'm not seeing, or an IRC command I should use? If so, what is the exact syntax for that command?

Options > Display > Options > Tray > Place mIRC in tray when minimized
You can minimize it to the tray, not close it. I thought this was the default behavior, maybe it isn't anymore.

Well, that's disheartening, but it does make sense.
If you mean stay connected even when your computer is shut down, then you want to google for 'irc bouncer'. This is generally not a free service.
