Hi all,

I have been trying to connect to a Freenode server for a little over (2) days now. mIRC complains that the SASL athentication failed. And the entire error message is like this:

Code:
*Connecting to chat.us.freenode.net (6667)
-
-niven.freenode.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-niven.freenode.net- *** Checking Ident
-
-niven.freenode.net- *** Found your hostname
-
-niven.freenode.net- *** No Ident response
-
SASL authentication failed
-
-niven.freenode.net- *** Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server
-
Closing Link: 66-87-2-206.pools.spcsdns.net (SASL access only)
-

I did find some helpful links to this problem they are:

http://www.zph.co.cc/mirc#TOC-Simple-Authentication-and-Security-

https://forums.mirc.com/ubbthreads.php?ub...true#Post228222

I download the dll script and sals.mrc' and follow the instruction on both articles exactly as both authors specify.
But no luck I still keep getting the message that SASL authentication failed.

Is this a bug?

What else can I try?

Any help will be apreciated.

Thanks

I use the same script, the "SASL Manager", in the pictures.

I had written some rather crude instructions (never got around to improving them), might want to try following them. Here, on my little dropbox page.

As for the reason you need SASL on freenode, Instead of K-Lining a large amount of amount IP's, that abusive users have used before, they just add the SASL requirement, so that you have to be fully identified, before the connection is completed. Rather annoying, but at least you still have a way to connect.

Make sure you are entering your account name, not one of your grouped nicks. (You need a registered account, for this to work).

SALS authentication successful!

Coulple of things that I was doing wrong. First I needed to register my nickname with NickServ through Freenode Web Client. Second, I placed the downloaded files in the wrong mIRC directories. Thanks to your link I found the /run . command which opens the right directoty for the sasl.mrc and SASL.dll files.

Thanks a million for your help.
