When I try to connect to mIRC, I receive this msg:

* Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out)
-
* Connect retry #1 irc.gamesurge.net (6667) (dns pool)

When I check my connections I see this (my ip blanked out obviously, the columns with 0 = "bytes in", while the other would be "bytes out"):

Some background information:

1. It happened after I went on vacation and came back after a week (hence no settings changes).

2. I'm in a university network. Access to the network is via a network point in the wall, yet after contact with the network administrator it appears they aren't blocking my point/the site and it appears to be a problem isolated to my com.

3. Doesn't seem to be a malware problem but if you like I can post a hijackthis log.

4. Apparently not a firewall problem/antivirus problem because disabling them doesn't seem to have any effect.

5. I can still use the internet freely.

Help please?

Try using ports other than 6667 and see what happens. Somewhere in the range of 6665-6669 and 7000.

Did you ask them if they're blocking port 6667?

Doesn't work for all ports doesn't work for all sites.

Heh, nope they aren't. I used a laptop to plug into my network point and it can connect fine.

They aren't blocking 6667? How do you know this?

You used a laptop to connect with what client?

I used my roommate's laptop and plugged it into my network point and connected to the same server which I attempted to, using MIRC. Worked fine for his. Hence the problem is that of my machine.

Is your /firewall on? Have you modified any system files, like TCPIP.sys?

A full clean uninstall of the firewall has no effect.

I did use the EvID Patch to remove the restrictions on the number of connections. But reversion to the original amount seems to have no effect.

Here's another one for you... is this the only server you cannot connect to?

try another irc client just for testing purposes.. can any irc client connect to a server? perhaps this has nothing to do with mIRC

Actually I've encountered port problems for other similar type programs as well. I'm just hoping the mIRC community here could help me.
