New to mIRC, can't connect - mIRC Discussion Forums

I just downloaded mIRC, and I can't connect at all. The exact message I get is:

You seem to be having trouble connecting to an IRC server. The message that appeared was: 'Unable to connect to server'

Then it tells me to click the help button, which, really, was no help, as I really don't know anything about IRC at ALL. Can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks so much!

make sure your firewall doesn't block it
