hey guyss..
i cant seem to connect to mirc. I have tried to connect to various servers. such as irc.arabchat.net. and other servers.. but it keeps on saying unable to resolve server.
Can someone please help mee... tell me what else i can doo please
For that particular server, I get:
[21:29] -UK.ArabChat.Net- *** You are not welcome on this network.
-
[21:29] -UK.ArabChat.Net- *** AutoBanned for flood (Ticket ID: mHAwhH1rdW5dwv9) (2006/08/19 17.13)
-
[21:29] -UK.ArabChat.Net- *** Your IP is xx.yy.zz.38
-
[21:29] -UK.ArabChat.Net- *** For assistance, please email
Kline@ArabChat.Net and include everything shown here.
It's possible that a lot of the servers you're trying to connect to
can't be resolved, because they're not there. Try connecting to one of the big 6. (If you can connect to any IRC server, it's not your problem - it's a problem with the internet, the other server, your provider ... the list goes on. Some servers may require something you're not doing, like IdentD, but since irc.arabchat.net can be resolved, the question is, did you make a mistake and you can resolve it but you're banned, or are you really having a resolution problem)
so what are the solutions? or more appropriately.. are there any?
to answer ur question - i dont think i am banned coz i just downloaded mirc today. Do you know of other servers i can connect to
That depends on exactly what message you get with each connect attempt. The solution to the message I posted above is entirely different from your inability to resolve the server at all.
Post a few of the servers you're trying, and copy the message you get when attempting to connect to them. Or connect to irc.byxnet.net and join #acf and we can discuss it in real time. If you can't connect to irc.byxnet.net, post that message here too. I'll check here every few minutes, and I'm on byxnet.
* Connect retry #1 irc.byxnet.net (6667)
-
* Unable to resolve server
-
* Connect retry #2 irc.byxnet.net (6667)
-
* Unable to resolve server
That;s all i'm getting for any server!

The messages you saw were from the first time I ever connected to that network. Either someone from my provider flooded them and they set very wide bans, they're a UK server and don't like connects from the US, or something else.
The disconnect message isn't always totally accurate.
You should be able to connect to DALnet, UnderNet, EFFNet (which is a zoo) - any of their servers, and you should be able to connect to byxnet.
As I said, if you have a problem, post the server and the actual message here, or on #acf@byxnet if you can get there, and we'll go from there.
hmmm - nasty.
Windows? Which version? (98? 2k? XP?)
Home? Office network?
Who's your provider?
WINDOWS XP - i'm working from home and i'm not sure who is my provider.. its wireless.. if that helps
Go to Start/Run
Type in cmd and hit Enter
Type in ping microsoft.com
See if you get back 4 lines with times
If you do, try ping irc.byxnet.net
That'll either get you an "unable to resolve" or 4 more lines
didnt get anything when i typed it - just somethign saying its not a command
which isn't a command? cmd? or ping?
ping should be followed by a space (ping and the link you want to check, like a server address) - if your computer is telling you that ping isn't a command, you have computer problems.
no dot - ping microsoft.com
okkk.. i typed ping irc.byxnet.net
and i got the e lines with time!!! thats good right?
So can i connect now
That means that you CAN resolve byxnet. So the problem might be in your setup of mIRC, but I can't see how. Hang on and I'll go ask in a mIRC help channel. Maybe someone else knows what I've obiously forgotten.
ok typed ping micorsoft.com
and this is what i got
pinging micorsoft.com [207.46.250.119]with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out
Request timed out
Request timed out
Request timed out
ping statistics for 207.46.250.119:
packets: sent =4, REcieved=0, Lost=4 <100% loss>
but when i typed ping irc.byxnet.net - i got the four lines
pinging micorsoft.com [207.46.250.119] is the thing mIRC is saying it can't do - resolving. It resolved microsoft.com to 207.46.250.119, which is what the computer needs to talk to it. Whether it can talk to it or not, at that point, is totally irrelevent now - as long as your computer can resolve addresses ...
I'm talking to someone who's pretty good now, and someone else who should know what she's doing just popped in, so let's see ...
ok - he says to go into mIRC and type
/dns microsoft.com
see what that says
* Dns resolving microsoft.com
-
* Dns unable to resolve microsoft.com
that's all that i got!
btw - thanks for the help really!
* Dns resolving microsoft.com

VERY strange.
btw - thanks for the help really!
No problem - I just wish we could get you on some network - it would make things easier
soo is there a solution to all this orr i am never going to be on mirc lol
In mIRC - go to File/Options, then to Connect, then to Local Info
Copy everything there to here - which boxes are checked and which button is clicked - DON'T paste yuour IP address or local host here if you value your privacy, but make sure they look like real ones.
BTW, the end of local host - the <whatever>.net or .org or .com should be your provider - that you can post here.
There's always a solution. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem, but there's always a solution.
I can spend about another hour and a half tonight working on this with you, so we should be able to fix it.
If not, there's always dynamite.
okk.. here is nothing written on the local host and ip address.
on connect, always get - the local host is checked.
lookup method - the server is checked.
Uncheck Local Host
Check IP Address
Recheck Local Host
Then click OK, close mIRC, run it again and see if you can connect to something
still the same - i got unable to resolve server again
look in the two boxes - did they get filled in? local host and IP address?
in local host, what's at the right end? <what>.net or <what>.org?
there is nothing written in the ip address or local host. ITs empty.
okay, that's what's wrong - the ip address has to get filled in ... try changing the Server method to Normal, click ok, close mIRC and rerun it. (You have to close it because it only gets the local stuff when it first starts up.)
it says 'mIRC will tr to fill in these values by itself, so leave them empty for now'
Did you try to connect to a server since you changed the IP check?
same thing. It says unable to resolve server
Are you running Zone Alarm?
zone alarm?? I dont think soo
Any firewall that you know of? Any "Norton" stuff? Any Semantec stuff?
I dont think so! well norton keeps on popping up for me to subscribe but that's it
