I set up my dcc transfer, so that I could share files. But when some one uses my 'trigger' they can not connect to my files .

I am only using windows 98, but I am on a router (could it be a firewall thing -- if so how do I fix it?)

Please help me!!!

most people on this forum dont support this sort of thing because of all the illegal sharing involving copyright laws/piracy

How about you type /join #chat on whatever network you use. And instead of trying to turn mIRC into a file sharing client, use it for what it was meant... CHATTING.

why would file sharing be possible if it wasnt intended eh? its just like saying IM programs shouldnt have a 'send a file or photo' option because theyre for chatting.

Because it is not too often that DCC bots are used to transfer legit files. It does happen of course, it just doesn't happen very often. There is nothing wrong with filetrading, as long as the files are legal and someone is yet to state or claim that the original poster has done anything wrong. Despite the inclusion of certain functions, mIRC is not the best platform for a filetrading bot. Infact no chat programme is. DCC is a notoriously unreliable and cantankerous protocol and is the subject of probably 30% of queries here.

Just because some mIRC users share illegal files, doesnt mean we have to support that use of mIRC. Why would we spend time helping someone do something that is against the law, against AUP's of some networks and providers, the hot pursuit of and trading of those files being a huge source of trojans? Not to mention the whole thing has sent the music and movie industries into a flurry of lawsuits against Joe User. No one here disputes the use of mIRC to occasionally send a pic or a legit file between trusted users (within the normal cautions), we just refuse to support or encourage illegal filetrading.
