So mIRC 7.42 came out recently. I grab the .exe and do the upgrade, making sure to close mIRC. It finishes, great, restart the computer. I check mIRC version and its still telling me that its 7.41 and I need to update. Please help.

The most common reason for this is anti-virus software that is interfering with the installation. Which anti-virus software are you using? If you disable it and then install mIRC, does that resolve the issue?

I'm using just the default windows anti-virus. I turned it off, closed mIRC, installed the latest 7.43, did a restart, still running 7.41.

I seem to recall someone having a similar issue some years ago but cannot find the post in the forums. I will email you directly to see if we can track down why this is happening.

Update: the issue was due to a startup folder shortcut/executable link.
