Is it better to have fast text display on or off?
I've tried this both on and off using several different machines and internet connections over the years, and can't say that it's made much, if any, difference. Sorry I can't be of more help.
When I had a slow computer, I perceived that it made a difference when flooders came in and started filling the window with ridiculous amounts of control codes.
Can you give me a better definition of 'slow' for the computer you were using? I tested a number of configurations, with the slowest being a PII-266 w. 128M RAM on a dial-up connection. Of course the actual programs running would also have an effect, so I kept it to a minimum.. Windows XP, AVG anti-virus, and mIRC (no scripts)
AMD K6-2 500 Mhz, 64 MB RAM, SiS 530 Chipset with 8 MB of shared RAM running Windows 98. I remember that when I turned fast text display ON I started lasting a little bit more when the legions of bots came in to flood the hell out of the channel. Since this experience is based on my perception, I could be mistaking, though.
In OLDER computers (Pentium 1's and older) I think it actually DID make a difference for screen freeze/lag types of things, but that wwas ages ago. These days, I think I have it set because it always was and I save my settings *shrug* Dont know if that helps
