That's my problem.
I try to use my nickname on a new chatroom I set up through freejavachat.com and it says that the nickname I use is already in use.
So, obviously I can't get onto it to try and identify/register it.
I also info'd my nickname and it said it's not registered.
Any remedy to this?
You should be able to connect with another nickname (/nick anothernickname). Your "main" nick might be unregistered, but is currently held by another user. At a later date you can register the nick to prevent this very problem
So it's probably saying that because another user on freejavachat.com has the nickname?
Are they currently using it do you think? Like chatting?
So when will I get to get it back? Once they let it de-register? That would be unfortunate.
Only one person can be connected to a network with a given nick at one time. If someone else is using the nick, you will not be able to if you didn't register it. You will have to wait until the other person disconnects and then register the nick yourself (if the network has nick services). Once you do so, you can prevent others from using that nick.
It seems like this person is someone who is online 24/7. Maybe I'll find a break in it.
Thanks a lot for your help, guys.
Why don't you connect with another nickname in the meantime?
I have done that.
I have another problem. I made a channel on freejavachat.com, and now I don't get op even when I identify myself for some reason.
Anyone know why?
I don't know what services that network uses, but make sure that your channel is set to automatically op you.
As far as the nick goes, I wouldn't suggest trying to "steal" someone's nick. If they use it and are on regularly, then you should let them have it and just use a different nick. Just my opinion, of course.
How do I set the channel to auto-op me if I'm not an operator?
That's a question for the administrators of the network, it's not directly to related to mIRC and it depends very much on how the network works, etc.
Great. Thanks a lot for all your help, everyone.
