I have a problem with mIRC, could someone help me? I have been using this program for almost one month now without a problem but just the other day I purchased a new harddrive and re-installed my OS (Windows XP Media Center 2005 SP2), now when I run mIRC I get an error when I receive files. The error is as follows:

Have you tried reinstalling mIRC to another folder to see if it works?

I have un-installed it and re-installed it several times now and I have tried installing it in another directory as well as another drive. I have even tried re-downloading it from the mIRC website and re-installing it. I have even gone as far as un-installing it and removing all traces of it in my registry and re-installing it. I have also replaced the NTDLL.DLL file.

I installed it and left it with all the default settings and I can recieve about 3 - 4 files before I get that failure, after I get that failure I run mIRC again and I am unable to get any files the failure comes up right away.

It sounds like a router issue to me.

mIRC 6.2, no scripts or addons?

What modem? What router, if any?

(Could be a corrupt XP installation too.)

I haven't made any changes to my router. I have another computer in my home that is running mIRC and it is working just fine.

I am running autoget v7.40b4, but I was running it before too. My Modem is a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard Cable modem (supplied by the cable company) and my router is a D-Link DI-514 Wireless Router.

Now it could very well be a bad windows install. What do you think, could it be?

It could very easily be that your first computer is set up properly on the router and the second is not. That's most likely the problem.

It's not dual-routing - the surfboard doesn't do NAT.

I can't see how not forwarding the ports in the router would cause Windows to blow up.

I'd bet on a problem with the Windows installation, or something else running in the computer at the same time as mIRC.

I have seen routers crash mIRC and other download apps (P2P for example). It's usually caused by being incorrectly configured... or just a bad router in general.

It could just be that you have to update the firmware on the router i did that and now mirc is stable :-@

then again i can't stop mirc from crashing while using autoget and omenserv

Simple answer: don't use them.. now that the sarcasm is out of the way, what version of mIRC are you currently using, and what was the last version that they worked with? I've heard of a number of scripts that work fine with 6.17 but don't work with 6.2.

Also, going from 6.14 to 6.17 was hard on some scripts (eg. Invision). They were either updated to handle 6.17 and higher, or they were left alone and everyone who wants to use them has to use an older version of mIRC.

NTDLL.DLL is a module that contains NT system functions, and is not associated with the Mirc install.. Try updating your system or download and install a current version of the DLL.
