Hi there. I really want to hide my IP address in IRC chat, and have googled for proxies etc and tryed some things. But have no idea on how to set it up etc. Can anyone help please with a simple and easy guide etc? Cheers.

I did but still don;t know how to do it. I tryed some ways but it won't connect. Need something definite and simple and free lol.

So, you register an account on the network that you are at.
If you don't know how to do this, go to the networks helpchannel, usually #help

Then you go to your perform menu in mIRC:
Tools - Options - Connect - Options - Perform

Click "Enable perform on connect"
In the square below that, you type the login line for your network (the login you just created, after visiting the help channel).

Below that line you type:
/mode $me +x

That should make your IP invisible, everytime you connect.

Many network services partially hide or alter your connection IP address, this results in an IP number not being able to resolve for anyone else (unless you then use DCC chat) Anyway try to see if there is any info about this on the networks website or from one of the opers. By the way you will always be able to see your own IP clearly and correctly.

Proxy? No, not at all.
You just have to register an account on the irc network, that you connect to.
After that you hide your IP using the /mode $me +x command.

K thanx. New to IRC why I ask stupid questions. But how exactly do I create an account and that makes my IP hidden? Do I have to pay?

lol no, its for free.
You just need to know where you can register.

It depends on every network, so I cant tell.
Maybe if you mention the network that you are using, someone else can help you with that.

lol ok cheers. I'll have a look around. Just would prefer a nice simple proxy I can type into the mIRC settings etc and be easy as that. Came across one method but the crap didn't work.

Heh using an open proxy may result in you being banned from the network you are chatting on. But this all depends on the rules of the network. Try and find the help room on that network could be #help (could be anything) and ask in there what you can do and how to do it.
