mIRC Homepage
I just upgraded to Windows XP MCE (and mIRC 6.17 from 6.16), and whenever I join or part a channel, say anything on a channel, or receive any text from a channel, my CPU usage spikes at 100% and mIRC stops responding for several seconds. I've tried disabling my firewall (nVidia's firewall-- XP's firewall is already turned off) with no success. PMs don't seem to cause this issue, and neither has web browsing or running my own HTTP server. I just put this box together yesterday: Athlon 64 3000+, nVidia nForce4 NF4-DAGF, GeForce 6600 LE, 1GB PC3200, fresh install of Windows XP MCE 5.1.2700.2180. Has anyone encountered this before?
I found the source of the problem: Avast's instant messenger protection was lagging mIRC like crazy (and Trillian as well) whenever a log file was written to, if it was a decent size. I'm not sure if I just had this turned off when I was running Win2k, or if it didn't malfunction so horribly, but either way it looks like it's to be avoided.
