I have the auto-get option on DCC ticked but if I leave the PC I come back to find that files have not been accepted.

Is there anything else I need to do?

check out the alt-o/dcc/ignore options, you likely have the file type selected to be ignored, or dont have the file type selected to be accepted, depending on what setting you have that section set as.
