mIRC worked just fine until a couple weaks ago: it starts freezing when I start it up. I can't do anything anymore with the app until I close it via taskmanager.

I've checked most possible problems:
- disabled firewall (even windows one on XP)
- disabled norton AV
- uninstalled mirc, even scripts via normal way, deleted other remaining files
- cleaned register: eg searched for mirc references and deleted them
- reinstalled mirc, deleted it.. clean starts, tried script solution, nothing...

other irc clients do work, but I'm addicted to mIrc smile

any help or ideas?

Any scripts loaded ?
Try a clean install, most likely you have
a script loaded with an on START event
that has an endless loop, causing mIRC to freeze.

Try to wait for a minute or 2, my mIRC also freezes when i start it, but after a minute or so, it says *poof* and works fine again

there might have been some onstart script, but I doubt it... anyways, I found the problem, I unclicked *use old settings* and backup thing... suddenly it worked

still, I'm surprised it freezed :-/ maybe some crash corrupted something

thx, for the advice anyways smile

It was probably what I suggested, or something
close to it
. When you chose 'use old settings',
that included loaded scripts, therefore it wasn't
a clean install.
Alright, well heres my dilemma:
I still get the random freezes, unfreezes, and freezes again, even shutting mIRC down in taskmanager does nothing for the problem. Once the freezing starts the only thing to cure it is a reboot. The interesting thing about this is it only starts when i attempt a dl. I first tried unloading the dccassist script i had....no luck, still the same problem. I uninstalled, reinstalled mIRC....didnt help. Checked the drive for errors...... nothing. So i am lost, anyone have any suggestions?
