hi, i have posted about this before but still havent figured it out..

What happens is my connection drops out for no apparent reason then my computer goes into several freezes each lasting for 10-15 seconds. mIRC server window displays:
* [10053] Software caused connection abort

As far as i can tell, this is only happening when i am recieving a file over mIRC.

I have a clean install of mIRC version 6.12 and am not running any scripts/addons, speed patches, no bandwidth limits.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

sorry about posting a new thread but im pretty desperate to get it fixed..

Parabrat i read your post..

XP firewall is disabled.
Have tried many ports on many networks
No speed patches
drivers up to date
i have tried it with no other apps running other than apache (would this affect it?)
Tried 2 Nics, 1gbps thats built into my mobo (Asus A7V8X) and a 3com NIC

As for uninstalling MSN IM, i will try that now as it has been causing other problems like slow startup.

Im not behind a router, i have cable modem into this computer, then back out to hub which goes out to other computers.

back? i never used it in the first place :P
i remember some ppl posting about probs with 3com but i think that was with their router, not nic. wish there was something i could suggest beyond what has already been tried. this does seem to effect 2k and xp users more than anyone else, and i wouldnt know what to tell you to check after your reformat. i think you said it happens with another chat client as well?

One is this thread

Speedpatches also have been reported as a cause for bsod (blue screen of death).

YOu can alter your xp settings to not reboot on an error. system properties, (press right mouse button on "My Computer" on the desktop), look for advanced, then Startup & Recovery, click on the settings button for this, and then in the new box that opens up ncheck "Automatically Reset". Its possible the same problem that caused the 10053 error is now causing this due to an xp setting change.
