I am a new member thanks to someone telling me about this site from a group chat room on MSN. I am just checking it out to see how I like it. Haven't downloaded anything yet...too scary yet for me. Just wanted to find out where all the people come from in here. I'm from Michigan/USA and I love to chat with people

Welcome to our forum! IRC by way of mIRC is a great way to meet new ppl and chat. Click on some of the links to the left on your screen (like How to INstall, Intro to IRC etc) to learn a bit before you jump in.

This forum is here to answer questions and help ppl using mIRC and isnt for general chatting. Dont worry, mIRC and IRC will only seem confusing at first. Before long you wont remember not using it smile

dont be rude phoenix! not everyone is familiar with what different forums are for. We were all new once at everything including mIRC, IRC, and forums. Remember the ppl who were nice and helped you to understand a new thing and return the favour.

It's strange, I was showing a RL friend some IRC websites earlier, because she was interested in site designing etc etc, and I was showing her some websites which I thought looked good - and she said she didn't understand ANY of what was being said on these websites, and also described it as "scary"

Strange that the word "scary" is linked to people not understanding something O.o

Anyhoo, welcome aboard LucyLou2U smile - Hope you stick with IRC and enjoy yourself. It's very daunting at first, but if you stick with it and make an effort to understand it, it's easy as pie wink

Just an added note, don't go clickin' on any websites that people send to you, or accept files from people you don't know. They can have viruses in them, which will harm your computer and possibly try to infect other people too smile

Happy chatting!

Regards,

As a matter a fact, I am blonde. When I was told to check this site out, I wasn't aware at the time that it was a forum. I am still trying to understand exactly what it is.

Thanks for all your help with trying to understand this site and what's for.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm not sure yet how this all works so I'll keep reading about it. Personally, I'm not a computer wiz and I hate it when things go wrong.

This website is the official website for the IRC client mIRC. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, where you can join an IRC network and join 'channels' and chat with users.

You can get mIRC by going to "Download mIRC" in the menu bar to your left, open it up, and read the help file to get started smile

This forum is to discuss everything about mIRC/IRC/etc, and to help users with problems they're having. Welcome aboard and hopefully you'll learn to enjoy mIRC like hundred's of thousands of others all over the globe smile

You're welcome. You're doing the best thing, reading all the info thats available, makes things much less confusing. Honest, before long you'll feel like you've always been IRCing smile

Hey Lucy

First timer like yourself & just had rather unwelcome welcome! thought this was about friendly catter on the web.
what experience you had on it so far? confused
Posted By: pheonix Re: Hi fellow message ppl - 02/11/03 09:05 PM
if you think that was an unfriendly welcome, then you should be glad I didn't mean it to be an unfriendly welcome.
Posted By: LucyLou2U Re: Hi fellow message ppl - 03/11/03 02:51 AM
Gerry it's not a problem and I think I'm over it. Right now I don't think I will down load mirc. I need to do some research on it and not really interested in paying for a program.

LucyLou2U - Newbie - what fun can be had lol *evil grin*

Nooooo truthfully LucyLou2U - Welcome to the mIRC discussion boards. You probably have experience enough in the 'chat' side of things in MSN to at least come here and ask what this mIRC program is....

As a few peeps above me have said - its a chat program. Its simple to use (and quicker if your chatting with MSN Java - ie in a Browser based chat room...)...

I didn’t know what 'mIRC' was in 1998 when I was introduced to it at 34.... Having also found the old MSChat proggie by mistake(!) on the work web server - I thought "hello what’s this!?!...

Since then I have been a chatter on many servers, have 300+ friends I talk to regularly world wide... Being based in Sydney this "buggers me up sometimes" due to world time zones and catching up with them all on a regular basis...

I do have one warning for you though LucyLou2U - mIRC chat can be very addictive! There are so many users in so many places world-wide always on-line on different servers and rooms/channs.

Glad to see you like the Garden as I do (great when I've either been at work, scripting mIRC/webs, etc - nice pressure relief valve)

Anyway take care LucyLou2U

Lucy, just a friendly suggestion. It isnt a good idea to put your email on an open forum like this. There are bots that troll the web looking for email addresses to spam, better to msg the person you would like to have your email addy, or check their profile to see if theirs is posted.

Take your time and read thru what you've found. Remember that you have 30 days to try mIRC out before you have to pay for it or be in violation of the licensing agreement.

To you and gerry both, please note that IRC (Internet Relay Chat) isnt any different from IRL (In Real Life), there are nice ppl and not so nice ppl, as well as ppl with a sense of humour that may seem a bit odd. Since english isnt the first language of many ppl you will encounter, sometimes the way something is phrased may come across sounding wrong. And yes, some ppl just dont think before they hit the enter key frown

Thanks for the advice now can you help me delete out the e-mail addy?
Posted By: ParaBrat Re: Hi fellow message ppl - 04/11/03 05:17 AM
sure... and you're welcome smile

You have 2 hours after you make a post to edit it (just click on the word edit), after that you need to ask a moderator to do any editing for you.
