I have been using IRC for 6 months and certain abbreviations are really getting to me, eg what does :P mean when people are chatting?

:P is an emoticon for a smiley face sticking its tongue out...
You could have a look at
this site for tons of abbreviations and smiley stuff.
and just in case you were wondering how ppl make it look like :þ they make the þ part by holding down the alt key while typing 0254 (use the numbers on the right side of the keyboard, not the ones across the top)
see if you have charmap.exe on your puter (prolly in windows directory) to see other combos you can use.
Just type /run charmap in mIRC.
þ dosn't apear as þ on irc lol
It does if you're using a font that has that character.
