when I type in a real long line in the editbox I start hearing a ding for every letter I type when the line is really long. It posts the entire line in channel so why those dings?

It may display in the channel fine on your end, but the server may truncate it if the line is too long. Ask someone on the channel if they see the entire message.

the beeps start at ~500 characters, the default line limit for an IRC PRIVMSG command-- as mentioned, the server will truncate lines longer than the limit, so mIRC is informing you that this *may* happen.
