uhm
sorry if this is not related to irc...
but i noticed some ppl here use windows 2000
and i have 1 little problem that annoys me...

i use win2k pro with sp4 + sp4 rollup (some say its sp5)
and i see that M$ still havent fixed system tray colors (they are still disgusting)

so my question is, does anyone knows if there exist
official or non official patch for this ?

i found 1 site but it is outdated for sp 1 and 3...
so any help would be apreciated...

offcourse if this is too much for forum discusion
i wont be mad if this is deleted...

thanks i found the patch laugh

+ additional question...
why does win2k shut down pc automaticaly after some time?
i left my pc over night on and in morning it was off...
in power mangment everything was on "never".

and if it was power failure in my block then on "come back"
my monitor would be on back so it isnt this...
and no, no1 turned it off

i ask all this coz i recently wen from WinME to 2000 so... i dunno if theres something aditional in win2k to set

You might want to check the bios, I've been told MS writes power saving options in the bios.

Good point. Also, the bios has its own power saving options, even if M$ didn't do anything to the bios.

Note that your screensaver also has power saving options that you could check out.

well when i was on WinME my pc could take up to 1 week to be constantly on without any reset or power off...

with this 2k i dont know why it behaves like this...

for screen saver i have disabled on "none"
i dont use any power saving such as hybernate or simmiliar...

I use 2k all the time, and it never shuts down, so i can only say you may well have a crapped install or you have some software causing the shutdown (its damn easy to shut the pc down). Oh and MS do NOT write anything to the "BIOS" the bios are ROMS or flashable ROMS which are manurfacturer specific. The bios is also completely redundent once the OS gets a hold, since it doesnt really want to run any of the 16bit code in it, thats why ya need drivers for all the hardware in the machine, to replace the bios once its got you off the ground.

PS: any bios featured cmos values settable to do with powersaving are handled by the OS once its got control (excluding a small group of hardwired machines)

Now im going back to watching MS tell there test pilot to pull harder on his bootlaces and he well lift off the ground. Haha there telling him Its just a matter of faith!
